Are you in the right job?
Whether you are starting out in your career or a seasoned worker, having a job that is ‘right’ for you can make the difference between a happy career or a miserable one, which is something that will also influence your personal life.
If you are not happy in your job it is important to understand the overarching reasons why this is so. Are you in the wrong field (career) or in the wrong working environment (company)?
Many people conclude that they need a change in career because they are constantly unhappy at work, when the reality is that all they need to do is to move to another company. Reasons could be various including clashes with their manager or colleagues, lack of new challenges, no possibility of advancement or simply an incompatible culture. In such circumstances finding a similar job with a company that embraces a culture which is compatible to your own, may let you find happiness at work and become passionate about in your work.
On the other hand, frequent job changes, constant stress and struggling to complete daily tasks that are required from the job, may be signs that you may need to consider a change in careers. You need to ask yourself what you are really good at. If you are not utilising these skills in your job, it could be the time to consider a change in your career path. You need to think hard about what you are good at and enjoy doing. What jobs could fit your skills set? Are you willing to enrol in training courses in order to make the transition to a new career possible?
Change is never easy, and changing jobs or careers is definitely stressful for most people. On the other hand, staying miserable to avoid the stress of change, is definitely not the way to go.
Quoting George Eliot, “It is never too late to be what you might have been”.
